FSSAI for Home-Based Food Businesses (Bakers & Tiffin)

Selling cakes, snacks, meals, or tiffins from home is still a food business. Platforms, housing societies, and buyers increasingly ask for a valid FSSAI number.

Typical path. Most home-based sellers start with Basic Registration if annual turnover is up to ₹1.5 Crore. Growing cloud kitchens or multi-brand setups may need State Licence as turnover rises.

Premises tips. Keep a clean, dedicated cooking area; store ingredients separately from household chemicals; be ready with ID, address, and premises proof (rent/ownership/utility as accepted).

Online sales. Instagram, WhatsApp, and marketplace sellers are not exempt. Your FoSCoS details should match the name and address you show customers.
